CHARTER PRESIDENT BINA AHMAD
Our Charter President, Bina Ahmad, joined Rotary in 2011 in the White Plains Rotary Club. She transitioned to the East Yonkers Rotary Club just before its merger with the Yonkers Rotary Club in 2013. Bina has served on many Club Committees, has been the Vice President of the Yonkers-East Yonkers Club, Club Rotary Foundation Chair for 4 years, and Club Board Member for 6 years. In November 2021, she formed her own Club - the E-Club of Sunshine.
Because of her contributions in Growing Rotary by forming new Clubs in her District she was tapped to a Founding Member of the newly-established North American Club Creation Team.
At the District level, she was Assistant Governor from 2020-21, continuing into 2024-25. She was the District Executive Secretary for 2024-25. She was co-Chair of the District Conference Committee for 2018-19. She was the District's Innovative Club Advocate (ICA) for two years and was appointed to the Zone 32 ICA Team.
For 2025-26, Bina has been tapped as a Founding Member of Rotary’s North American Club Creation Team, concentrating on creating new Clubs across North America.
As the District First Lady in 2019-20, she visited all Clubs in our District, then numbering 44. Since then, she has been proactively promoting Grow Rotary initiatives and was instrumental in the creation of the first new club in the District in a decade – the E-Club of Heritage New York, in January 2019. Since then, she has driven the formation of seven other Clubs – the Westchester Rotary Club in December 2020, the East-West Rotary Club in June 2021, her own Sunshine Rotary E-Club in November 2021, the Promise Rotary Club in December 2022, the Hope, NY Rotary Club in February 2023, the first cause-based Club, the Blooming Rose Rotary Club in July 2023, and finally the Pioneers, NY Rotary Club in October 2024.
She also helped the Heritage E-Club charter, its Satellite Club, as well as the Smart Rotaract Club, the Aspire Rotaract Club, and was the driving force behind the chartering of the Bermuda Longtails Rotaract Club in April 2025.
Bina was named “Rotarian of the Year” for 2020-21, The same year she was awarded the Zone 32 New Club Champion Award and as a crowning honor received Rotary International's highest honor - the Service Above Self Award in February 2022 – a recognition awarded to only 100 out of the 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide.
She has attended the Toronto and Calgary Rotary Conventions and numerous Zone Institutes and Rotary Regional Leadership gatherings.
Bina believes teamwork is the key ingredient for success, and credits her success in her professional life and in Rotary to this belief. She lives the 4-way test and feels enriched by Rotary Fellowships.
Bina joined the then Dime Savings Bank in 1988 and transitioned to JP Morgan Chase via mergers. As Branch Manager and Vice-President since 1998, she gained broad experience in all aspects of business and consumer banking, sales, and operations as well as management, earning many high-performance awards. She retired as Vice-President of a commercial bank, in 2014.
From the late 1980s to 2005, Bina prepared and presented a weekly Radio news and information program for the United Nations.
Following her studies at Holy Cross College, Bina graduated from the University of Dhaka with a B.S., with honors in Psychology with minors in Political Science and Sociology.
Bina and her husband, fellow Rotarian and Past District Governor Mahbub, are Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation and members of the Paul Harris Society. They are long-time Westchester residents and raised their two sons in Scarsdale, both of whom are now Rotarians.
