Rotary's Areas of Focus
Seven Priorities. One Purpose: Lasting Change.
Rotary members share a simple belief: when people come together, combine their skills, and act with purpose, they can create meaningful and lasting change.
Around the world, Rotary concentrates much of its humanitarian service within seven Areas of Focus. These areas address some of the most important challenges facing individuals, families, and communities—from peace and health to education, economic opportunity, clean water, and protection of our environment. Rotary uses these priorities to guide service projects and to help clubs develop sustainable, measurable initiatives capable of continuing long after the initial project has been completed.
At the Rotary E-Club of Sunshine, New York, the Areas of Focus are more than categories. They help us understand how different needs are connected.
A clean-water project can improve health, help children stay in school, and reduce the burden on mothers. Education can open doors to employment and economic independence. Economic opportunity can strengthen communities and contribute to peace. Protecting the environment can improve health, preserve water resources, and create more resilient communities.
Our projects—both close to home and thousands of miles away—demonstrate how relatively simple acts of service can contribute to these larger goals.

PEACEBUILDING & CONFLICT PREVENTION
Peace is more than the absence of conflict. Rotary helps communities build understanding, strengthen relationships, support people displaced by conflict, and address conditions that can lead to violence and instability.
Peace is also the creation and presence of opportunities.

Seven Areas. Connected Impact.
The seven Areas of Focus are not seven separate worlds. They continually intersect.
A well may advance water and sanitation, maternal and child health, disease prevention, education, and economic development simultaneously. A vocational-training project can strengthen household income while empowering women and improving children's educational opportunities. A project that welcomes refugees can provide immediate assistance while also building understanding and peace.
That interconnected approach is at the heart of effective Rotary service.
At Sunshine Rotary, we believe that meaningful change does not always require a massive project. It begins by listening, identifying a genuine need, building the right partnerships, and taking action that gives people the opportunity to build stronger futures.
